FF14 Patch 7.56: Everything We Know About the New Evercold Expansion Jobs
Patch 7.56 the New Evercold Expansion Jobs is not an Evercold patch. It is the last Dawntrail patch, it went live on September 8, 2026, and it brought Beastmaster. The Final Fantasy 14 are separate: Bastion and an unannounced physical ranged DPS, both arriving with the 8.0 expansion in January 2027.
If you came here looking for Bastion, skip to the Evercold section. If you just logged in and want Beastmaster unlocked, start at the top.
Accurate as of September 9, 2026. Evercold job details come from Fan Festival 2026 Berlin and official Square Enix material. The physical ranged DPS has not been revealed.
Patch 7.56: What Actually Shipped

Patch 7.56 is the fourth and final content update in the Patch 7.5x cycle, subtitled Trail the New Evercold Expansion Jobs to the Heavens. It closes out Dawntrail and pushes the story toward the Fourth, the frozen reflection of Etheirys where Evercold takes place.
Two headline pieces landed:
Trail to the Heavens – Part 2. The second half of the current Main Scenario arc, which sets up the transition into 8.0. The story preview teased travel to the Fourth and showed a cat-like figure carrying a crossbow, which lines up with the Köttr allied society confirmed for Evercold. Square Enix has not confirmed who that character is.
Beastmaster. The game’s second limited job after Blue Mage.
PvP Series 11 closed with the patch and Series 12 began. No new dungeon, raid, or trial shipped in 7.56.
Full item and quest listings are catalogued on the Patch 7.56 page at the FFXIV Console Games Wiki if you need the exhaustive drop list.
Beastmaster: The Patch 7.56 the New Evercold Expansion Jobs Explained
Beastmaster is a melee DPS that fights with a one-handed axe and shield, but it is officially a limited job. That means it cannot progress the Main Scenario, and it is locked out of most standard duty content the same way Blue Mage is.
It starts at level 1 with a cap of 50.
Beastmaster Unlock Requirements
You need three things before the job is available:
- Dawntrail registered to your account
- One Disciple of War or Magic at level 50 or higher
- Completion of the A Realm Reborn 2.0 Main Scenario
The unlock quest is picked up in New Gridania. Check the Lodestone quest listing if the NPC is not where you expect, since limited job unlocks have moved between patches before.
The Beast Collection System
Beastmaster is built around capture and command rather than a standard rotation.
You collect beasts across the world and assign them to Battlehorns, which function as your active squad slots. Fifty beasts are available to collect at launch. Beasts do not wear gear. Instead, you raise their stats by feeding them different types of beast feed, and the number of feeding slots available depends on the species and the size of the beast.
Build your squad for the encounter, not for a universal best-in-slot list. A boss-focused squad and a trash-clearing squad are different squads.
Instinct Skills And The Instinctual Combo

This is the mechanical core of the job, and it is where most players will struggle first.
Beastmaster has four Instinct Skills — Eldritch, Volant, Rampant, and Durant. Each corresponds to a specific energy gauge colour. Every active beast also carries its own unique Instinct Command.
To push damage, you command a beast to execute its action, then follow up with your own Instinct Skill in the correct colour sequence inside a timing window. Miss the window or the colour and you lose the payoff. Tempered Release is the command that triggers a beast’s special action.
The rhythm is call, read the colour, answer. It is closer to a call-and-response system than to a traditional oGCD weave.
Crucible Of The Unbroken
The Crucible is a Beastmaster-exclusive solo duty introduced alongside the job, described as a roguelike combat experience with branching routes and escalating difficulty tiers.
Progressing through it yields Gil, exclusive mounts, weapon skins, and monster skins. It also runs on its own ranking season, which means Beastmaster content continues past the patch drop rather than being fully consumed in a weekend.
Practical day-one order: clear the MSQ while the login queues are worst, then unlock Beastmaster, run the teaching quests, and push toward the Crucible around level 30 before grinding beast collection seriously.
Final Fantasy 14 Evercold New Jobs: What Is Confirmed
Evercold is the sixth expansion, launching January 2027 and opening the Goddless Realms Saga story arc. It takes the Warrior of Light to the Fourth, a reflection of Etheirys locked in ice, after a threat called the Solstice emerges.
Two new non-limited jobs are coming. Only one has been revealed.
Bastion (Main Tank)
Bastion was revealed by Naoki Yoshida during the Fan Festival 2026 keynote in Berlin on July 25, 2026, and Square Enix confirmed it in the official Bastion announcement.
The confirmed details:
- Role: Main Tank
- Weapon: Skyltborg, a pair of greatshields
- Mode: Evolved Mode only
That last line matters more than it looks. Bastion is not available in Reborn Mode, which makes it the first job in FFXIV history locked to a specific combat framework.
This is also the first new tank since Gunbreaker arrived with Shadowbringers in 2019. Tank players have been asking for seven years.
The Unannounced Physical Ranged DPS
Square Enix has confirmed the second job is a physical ranged DPS and has revealed nothing else — no name, no weapon, no gauge. Yoshida indicated further job reveals would follow at subsequent Fan Festival stops, with the Japan event beginning October 3, 2026.
Community speculation has landed heavily on a Final Fantasy III throwback, given Evercold’s Norse framing. That is speculation, not confirmation. Treat any “confirmed” ranged DPS name you see before October as fan theory.
Blue Mage
The Blue Mage update originally planned for the Dawntrail patch cycle is now scheduled to arrive at some point during the Evercold cycle rather than at launch.

Step-By-Step: How To Prepare For Evercold Right Now

- Finish Trail to the Heavens Part 2 in Patch 7.56.
- Unlock Beastmaster in New Gridania.
- Push Beastmaster to 30, then open the Crucible.
- Level a tank to 100 if you plan to main Bastion.
- Bank Allagan tomestones before the Seasons system replaces them.
- Gear your highest job first, since item level will share at cap.
- Level Disciples of the Hand and Land toward 100.
- Clear outstanding Dawntrail Extreme and Savage content now.
- Complete the Dawntrail relic weapon steps while parties are active.
- Watch the Japan Fan Festival on October 3 for the ranged DPS reveal.
- Pre-order Evercold once editions are announced.
- Decide early whether you will main Reborn Mode or Evolved Mode.
The Two-Mode System Changes Everything About Jobs
Evercold splits combat into two frameworks, and this is the single biggest job-related change in the expansion.
Reborn Mode is based on the current combat system. If you like how your job plays in Dawntrail, this is the continuity option.
Evolved Mode is designed to highlight each job’s unique identity. All existing non-limited jobs gain new actions, new traits, and completely new mechanics under it.
The tank sub-role split only exists in Evolved Mode. Paladin and Bastion are classified as Main Tanks. Warrior, Dark Knight, and Gunbreaker are classified as Off Tanks. Play Reborn Mode and that distinction does not apply to you at all.
Because Bastion is Evolved Mode only, choosing Reborn Mode means you cannot play the new tank. That is a real fork in the road, and it is worth deciding before launch rather than forty hours into the Main Scenario.
The level cap rises from 100 to 110 for every non-limited job and class, including Disciples of the Hand and Land. A broader breakdown of announced systems is maintained on the Final Fantasy Wiki’s Evercold entry.
Advanced Optimization Tips
- Do Not Over-Farm Tomestones For 8.0 — Evercold introduces a Seasons system that spans one odd and one even patch and is designed specifically so players do not have to rely on collecting Allagan tomestones for gear upgrades. Capping weekly tomes right now for a head start on 8.0 gearing is likely wasted effort. Spend them on glamour and materia instead.
- Gear One Job, Not Six — At level cap in Evercold, the item level of your highest job can be applied to your other jobs, which removes most of the need to maintain parallel gearsets. Concentrating your resources into a single main and letting the sharing system carry the rest is now the efficient play, and it changes how you should spend the next few months.
- Pick Your Mode Before You Pick Your Job — Bastion is Evolved Mode only, and the Main Tank versus Off Tank distinction exists nowhere else. If you
