Color Tiles Game Play Free Online
Color Tiles is a fast matching puzzle you can play free in your browser. Click an empty square, and the nearest tiles above, below, left and right of it vanish if any of them share a color. Clear as many as you can before the clock runs out. No download, no sign-up, and it works on desktop, tablet and phone.
What Is Color Tiles
Color Tiles is a single-player puzzle played on a grid of colored tiles with plenty of empty squares between them. Instead of clicking the tiles, you click the empty spaces. From the square you pick, the game looks along four straight lines: up, down, left and right. It finds the first tile in each direction, and if two or more of those tiles share a color, they are removed from the board and added to your score.
The first few clears feel easy. The challenge comes from speed and planning. The clock is always running, a wrong click takes seconds away, and every tile you remove changes which tiles are nearest to every other empty square. Strong players read the board in lines, spot pairs that face each other across a gap, and chain clears without pausing.
How To Play Color Tiles
- Press Start Game. In Classic mode the timer starts counting down right away.
- Pick an empty square. Clicking a tile does nothing, only empty squares count as moves.
- Look along the four straight lines from that square. The first tile you meet in each direction is its nearest neighbor.
- If two or more of those nearest tiles share a color, they disappear and you score points. One click can clear 2, 3 or 4 tiles.
- If nothing matches, the click is a miss. You lose time in Classic and Levels, and your streak resets in every mode.
- Keep going until time runs out, no moves are left, or the board is empty.
The red dot is the empty square you click. Its nearest tiles are blue above, orange below, orange to the left and green to the right. The two orange tiles match, so both are cleared for 20 points. Blue and green have no partner, so they stay on the board.
Game Modes And Difficulty Levels
Choose a mode and a difficulty above the board. Changing either one deals a fresh board, so pick before you start.
| Mode | Timer | Wrong Click | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | Counts down from 90 to 150 seconds | Costs 5 to 15 seconds | The original fast score chase |
| Zen | No limit, shows time played | No time lost, streak resets | Learning the board and relaxing |
| Levels | Set for each level | Costs 5 to 15 seconds | Climbing through harder and harder boards |
Difficulty applies to Classic and Zen. Normal uses the original rules: 200 tiles, 120 seconds and 10 seconds lost for each wrong click. Zen keeps the same board but removes the timer and gives you unlimited hints.
| Difficulty | Board | Colors | Tiles | Time | Wrong Click | Hints | Shuffles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 17 x 11 | 6 | 108 | 150 sec | 5 sec | 5 | 2 |
| Normal | 23 x 15 | 10 | 200 | 120 sec | 10 sec | 3 | 1 |
| Hard | 23 x 15 | 10 | 200 | 90 sec | 15 sec | 1 | 1 |
| Expert | 25 x 16 | 12 | 240 | 100 sec | 15 sec | 0 | 0 |
How Level Mode Works
Levels is the advanced path. Level 1 starts on a small board with 5 colors and asks you to clear 55% of the tiles. Every new level adds a color, grows the board, raises the goal by 5% and makes wrong clicks cost a little more, all the way up to 12 colors, a 25 x 16 board and a 90% goal. Your score carries from one level to the next, the Goal counter shows how many tiles you have cleared against how many you need, and every level you reach stays unlocked in the Start Level menu so you can jump back in later.
Game Options And Controls
- Hint rings the empty square that clears the most tiles right now. Hints are limited in Classic and Levels and unlimited in Zen.
- Shuffle scatters the remaining tiles into new spots. Save it for when you are stuck or no moves are left.
- Pause stops the clock and hides the board. The game also pauses by itself when you switch tabs.
- New Game deals a fresh board with your current mode and difficulty. In Levels it restarts the level you are on.
- Color Blind Mode puts a symbol on every tile, one symbol per color, so you can match by shape instead of shade.
- Aim Guides draw lines from the empty square under your mouse to its nearest tiles and outline the ones that match. Great for learning, switch it off for a real test.
- Sound and the volume slider control the match, miss and countdown effects.
- Fullscreen gives the board your whole screen on desktop and Android browsers.

Tips And Strategy To Score Higher
- Look for two same-colored tiles in one row or column with only empty squares between them. Any empty square on that gap clears both.
- Take 3 and 4 tile clears whenever you see them. They are worth far more than two pairs taken separately.
- Work from big open areas first. Long empty lines reach tiles that are hidden from cramped corners.
- Never guess. On Normal one wrong click costs 10 seconds, which is enough time for several good clears.
- After every clear, check the squares next to the gap you just made. New pairs often line up right there.
- Hold your Shuffle for the end, when the last few tiles are stranded with no partner in sight.
- Practice in Zen with Aim Guides on, then switch to Classic once you can spot matches without them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Color Tiles Free To Play?
Yes. Color Tiles is completely free on Mopoga. There is nothing to buy and no account to create.
Do I Need To Download Anything?
No. The game runs in your web browser on desktop, tablet and phone. Open the page and press Start Game.
What Happens When I Click The Wrong Space?
If none of the nearest tiles share a color, the click counts as a miss. In Classic and Levels you lose time, 10 seconds on Normal, and in every mode your streak resets. Clicking a tile instead of an empty square does nothing and costs nothing.
How Many Points Is Each Tile Worth?
Every tile is worth 10 points. Clearing 3 tiles in one click adds a 15 point bonus and clearing 4 adds a 40 point bonus. Emptying the whole board adds 10 points for each second left on the clock.
Can You Clear Every Tile On The Board?
Sometimes. Boards are dealt at random, so a few tiles can end up with no reachable partner. Careful play, a well-timed Shuffle and a little luck make a full clear possible, and it earns a big bonus.
What Is Color Blind Mode?
It places a symbol such as a circle, triangle, star or heart on each tile. Every color has its own symbol, so you can match tiles by shape without relying on color.
How Do Levels Work?
Levels mode gives you a goal: a number of tiles to clear before time runs out or the board locks up. Reach it and the next level unlocks with more colors, a larger board and a higher goal. Your score carries across levels.
Does Color Tiles Work On Phones And Tablets?
Yes. Tap empty squares to play. On narrow screens the board turns upright so the tiles stay large enough to tap accurately.
Is My Best Score Saved?
Yes. Your best score for each mode and difficulty, your unlocked levels and your settings are saved in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser data resets them.
Can I Play With A Keyboard?
Yes. Select the board, move with the arrow keys and press Enter or Space to click a square. H gives a hint, S shuffles and P pauses.
