Jetpack Joyride

Jetpack Joyride is an endless arcade runner where you guide Barry Steakfries through a high-tech laboratory, collect coins, complete missions and use temporary vehicles and gadgets to extend each run. The controls are deliberately simple: hold to rise and release to fall. The useful habit is looking ahead rather than reacting only to Barry’s position, because smooth height changes are easier to control than sudden corrections.

About Jetpack Joyride

Jetpack Joyride follows Barry Steakfries as he travels through an endless laboratory filled with obstacles, coins and temporary power-ups.

Instead of moving left and right manually, Barry automatically travels forward. You mainly control altitude, which keeps the game easy to understand while leaving plenty of room for better timing and route choices.

Latest Jetpack Joyride Update

The current Poki browser edition lists June 2022 as both its release and latest update on that platform.

The official Android version is maintained separately. Google Play currently lists its latest update as March 1, 2026, with more than 100 million downloads.

Jetpack Joyride Gameplay

Barry moves forward automatically while you control whether he rises or falls.

I find small height adjustments much more reliable than holding the control until Barry reaches the top of the screen. Staying nearer the middle usually gives you more time to react to whatever appears next.

Controls

  • Hold Left Mouse Button: Rise
  • Hold Spacebar: Rise
  • Hold Touchscreen: Rise
  • Release: Descend

The current browser edition confirms the same one-touch control system across computers and mobile devices.

The MDN Pointer Events guide provides useful technical background on mouse and touchscreen input in browser applications.

Jetpack Joyride Missions

Missions provide objectives beyond simply travelling farther.

The official mobile edition includes missions that increase Barry’s rank as they are completed. This gives repeated runs a progression goal even when a particular attempt ends early.

I would treat missions as secondary goals rather than forcing a difficult objective when the current route is already crowded.

Jetpack Joyride Coins

Coins appear throughout the laboratory and contribute toward unlocks and customization.

They encourage you to change altitude, but chasing every coin group can leave Barry badly positioned for the next obstacle. A safe route is often more valuable than collecting one extra line of coins.

Jetpack Joyride Gadgets

Gadgets provide additional effects that can change how a run develops.

The official game description highlights high-tech gadgets and power-ups as part of the wider progression system.

They add variety without changing the basic one-touch movement that defines Jetpack Joyride.

Jetpack Joyride Vehicles

Temporary vehicles occasionally change the normal movement rules.

Halfbrick’s current Jetpack Joyride page highlights unusual vehicles as one of the game’s signature features.

Because each vehicle behaves differently, I find the first few seconds more useful for learning its movement than immediately trying to collect every nearby item.

Jetpack Joyride Obstacles

The laboratory includes moving barriers, electrical hazards and other arcade obstacles.

The official mobile listing specifically mentions lasers, zappers and guided hazards as recurring challenges.

The key is recognizing the open route early enough to move gradually rather than making a large last-second altitude change.

Jetpack Joyride Power-Ups

Power-ups can temporarily change Barry’s abilities or provide additional protection and scoring opportunities.

These bonuses make individual runs less predictable and help break up the basic rise-and-fall movement pattern.

Jetpack Joyride High Scores

Jetpack Joyride uses an endless-runner structure, so improving distance and score becomes an important long-term objective.

Runs continue until Barry can no longer continue, after which you can immediately start again and try to improve your previous performance.

For another browser game built around short repeated attempts, Get On Top uses physics and local competition instead of endless running.

Jetpack Joyride Outfits

Barry can unlock and wear a variety of cosmetic outfits.

The official Google Play description specifically includes character customization as part of the progression system.

These outfits change appearance rather than replacing the core one-touch movement system.

Jetpack Joyride Events

The current mobile edition also includes special events and additional temporary game modes.

These newer systems belong to the actively maintained official mobile version rather than necessarily being present in the simpler Poki browser release.

Who Created Jetpack Joyride?

Jetpack Joyride was originally created by Halfbrick Studios, the Australian developer also known for Fruit Ninja. Halfbrick released the original game in 2011.

Poki’s current metadata lists Storms as the developer for its browser implementation, while its descriptive text still credits Halfbrick Studios as the original creator.

The official Halfbrick website continues to list Jetpack Joyride as one of its main games.

App And Platforms

The current Poki browser edition supports:

  • Desktop
  • Phone
  • Tablet

The official Google Play edition currently has more than 100 million downloads and supports Android and Windows.

Jetpack Joyride 2

Halfbrick also created Jetpack Joyride 2, which expands the series with updated graphics, new mechanics and a more structured laboratory adventure.

The official Jetpack Joyride 2 page currently lists it as available through Apple Arcade.

Games Like Jetpack Joyride

The closest alternatives are endless runners and arcade games built around simple controls and repeated high-score attempts.

Within Halfbrick’s own catalogue, Monster Dash and Dan the Man offer other compact action experiences, while Jetpack Joyride 2 is the direct sequel.

For another colourful browser game with quick rounds, Blumgi Paintball uses platform competition instead of endless running.

About This Game

Jetpack Joyride works best for players who enjoy games with very simple controls but steadily increasing pressure.

Its strongest feature is how much variety appears around one movement rule. Holding makes Barry rise, releasing makes him fall, while vehicles, missions, coins and gadgets continually change what you need to think about during each run.
