Hills of Steel

Hills of Steel is a physics-based tank action game where you drive across steep terrain, manage your vehicle’s balance and complete short cartoon-style battles. The hills matter almost as much as the opposing vehicles because poor positioning can make movement difficult. I find learning how the tank reacts to slopes more useful than trying to move quickly through every section.

About Hills of Steel

Hills of Steel combines side-scrolling vehicle movement with exaggerated physics.

Instead of driving across a flat arena, your vehicle constantly climbs and descends hills. The angle of the ground affects movement, making balance and positioning part of the challenge.

The current mobile edition also includes vehicle upgrades, different game modes, leaderboards and clan features.

Latest Hills of Steel Update

The Poki browser edition lists October 2023 as its release date and March 2025 as its latest platform update. Poki currently shows a 3.8 rating from more than 1.08 million votes.

The mobile version is maintained separately. Google Play lists its latest update as August 17, 2026, so it has received newer changes than the current Poki browser build.

Hills of Steel Gameplay

Each stage combines vehicle movement with short arcade encounters.

You travel over uneven terrain, keep the vehicle under control and progress through the level while dealing with opposing game units.

Controls

  • A / D: Drive
  • Arrow Keys: Alternative movement
  • Spacebar: Main game action
  • B: Repair

These are the controls currently documented for the Poki browser version.

The MDN KeyboardEvent documentation explains how browser applications can recognize keyboard input such as these movement keys.

Physics-Based Driving

Terrain is one of the defining mechanics in Hills of Steel.

Your vehicle reacts to slopes, descents and changes in momentum rather than moving as if it were attached to a flat track. Google Play also specifically describes the title as a physics-based action game.

I find making small movement corrections easier than holding one direction continuously across a steep section.

Hills And Vehicle Balance

The shape of the ground changes how your vehicle moves.

Climbing can reduce momentum, while descending can quickly increase it. Because of that, each hill acts like part of the level design rather than simple background scenery.

The mistake I would avoid is treating every slope the same. Watching how the vehicle settles after a landing makes the next movement much easier to judge.

Hills of Steel Vehicles

The mobile edition includes a large collection of unlockable tanks and fictional machines.

Current official listings name vehicles such as:

  • Cobra
  • Joker
  • Titan
  • Phoenix
  • Reaper
  • Barracuda
  • Ballista
  • Tower
  • Siege
  • Dune
  • Atlas
  • Tesla
  • Mammoth
  • Arachno
  • Scorpion
  • Kong
  • Kraken

The App Store describes the collection as ranging from traditional-looking tanks to futuristic machines and giant robotic vehicles.

Vehicle Upgrades

Upgrading vehicles is an important part of the mobile game’s progression.

Google Play currently lists improvements to attributes such as speed, armor and general vehicle performance, along with additional customization systems.

That gives longer play sessions a progression loop beyond completing one stage.

Repair System

The browser edition includes a dedicated repair control.

Pressing B activates the repair function according to the current Poki controls.

This adds another decision to the simple movement system because you need to pay attention to your vehicle’s condition while moving through the stage.

Hills of Steel Game Modes

The current mobile edition has expanded beyond the original basic arcade structure.

Google Play lists:

  • Arcade mode
  • Versus battles
  • Weekly events
  • Clan features
  • Leaderboards
  • Single-player content
  • Competitive multiplayer

The exact feature set can differ between the browser and mobile editions, so it is useful to treat them as related versions rather than assume every feature appears everywhere.

Hills of Steel Progression

Progress mainly comes from:

  • Completing matches and stages
  • Collecting rewards
  • Unlocking additional vehicles
  • Improving existing vehicles
  • Advancing through ranks
  • Participating in available events
  • Learning how different vehicles react to hills

The mobile edition also includes leaderboards and achievements through supported platforms.

Hills of Steel Mobile Version

Hills of Steel is available on Android as well as Apple devices.

Google Play categorizes it as an action, vehicle-combat and casual title with both single-player and multiplayer elements.

Apple lists support for iPhone and iPad and currently gives the game a 9+ age rating.

The official Apple App Store listing provides the current iOS compatibility and developer information.

Who Created Hills of Steel?

The current editions are published under Supercharge Mobile Corp.

Poki’s metadata lists Supercharge Mobile Corp as the developer, while its description still credits Superplus Games as the original creator.

The App Store and Google Play currently identify Supercharge Mobile Corp as the active developer and publisher for the mobile game.

Browser And Platforms

Hills of Steel can currently be played on:

  • Desktop
  • Phone
  • Tablet
  • Android devices
  • iPhone
  • iPad

Poki confirms desktop, phone and tablet support for its browser edition.

Hills of Steel 2

Hills of Steel 2 is a separate follow-up focused more heavily on real-time team multiplayer.

Its current App Store description identifies 3v3 battles, multiple online events, unlockable vehicles and leaderboard competition as major features.

It should be treated as a separate game rather than an update to the original Hills of Steel.

Games Like Hills of Steel

Players who enjoy the hill physics and vehicle movement may also like browser games built around terrain control and unusual driving.

For another physics-focused challenge, Get On Top replaces vehicles with short balance-based competitions.

Disaster Arena offers a different style of quick arcade challenge with changing minigames.

About This Game

Hills of Steel stands out because its terrain is part of the gameplay.

Climbing a hill, maintaining balance and controlling momentum all affect how comfortably you progress. The mobile edition expands that basic idea with a larger vehicle collection, upgrades, events and several game modes.

The browser version keeps the controls compact, while the newer mobile build provides the broader progression system.
