About Gamma Test
Check if your screen gamma is close to 2.2 so mid tones, shadows and skin tones look right.
Gamma controls how fast a screen goes from dark to bright. With the right gamma, mid tones and shadows look natural. If gamma is too low the picture looks flat and washed out. If it is too high, shadows turn too dark and colors look heavy. Most content is made for gamma 2.2, with 2.4 common for movies in a dark room.
How A Gamma Test Works
The test shows patches made of fine black and white lines next to solid gray patches. When you squint or step back, the lines blend into a gray. The solid patch that matches the blended lines tells you your current gamma. Separate red, green and blue patches show if one channel is off, which causes a color tint.
Tips For Accurate Results
- View at 100 percent scaling and native resolution.
- Step back from the screen or blur your eyes slightly.
- Turn off dynamic contrast and adaptive picture modes.
- Repeat the test in the lighting you normally use.
