About PPI Calculator
Work out pixels per inch from resolution and screen size to compare phone, monitor and TV sharpness.
PPI, pixels per inch, tells you how sharp a screen is. It depends on two things: the resolution and the diagonal size. A 6.1 inch phone with 1170 x 2532 pixels reaches about 460 PPI, while a 27 inch 1440p monitor sits around 109 PPI. A PPI calculator gives you the number in seconds so you can compare any two screens fairly.
The PPI Formula
PPI equals the square root of width squared plus height squared, divided by the diagonal size in inches. For example, a 24 inch 1920 x 1080 monitor works out to about 92 PPI.
How Much PPI Do You Need
- Phones: 400 PPI and above looks very sharp at close range.
- Monitors: 100 to 140 PPI is comfortable at desk distance.
- TVs: lower PPI is fine because you sit far away.
PPI Vs DPI
PPI describes pixels on a screen, while DPI describes ink dots in printing. People often use them interchangeably for screens, and Android also uses DPI for display density.
