Resizer

Resizer is a clever puzzle-platform game from Robert Alvarez where changing your character’s size is the key to every level. Shrink through narrow gaps, grow to push heavy boxes, bounce from springs, collect keys and use the right sequence of portals to reach each room’s exit.

Resizer

Resizer is a 2D puzzle-platform game where changing your character’s size is the key to reaching each level’s exit. Green and red portals shrink or enlarge you, letting you squeeze through narrow gaps, move heavier boxes and reach platforms that would otherwise be inaccessible. I find checking the whole room before entering a size-changing portal more useful than immediately taking the closest one, because the next obstacle may require the opposite size.

About Resizer

Resizer builds almost every puzzle around making your character larger or smaller.

Different sizes change what you can do. A small character can pass through tight spaces, while a larger form can interact with heavier objects and reach areas differently. The objective in each room is to use those changes correctly and reach the exit.

Latest Resizer Update

Poki lists October 2022 as the latest update to its browser edition after a February 2021 release on that platform.

The game itself is older. Kongregate records a February 7, 2020 release and several updates during that month, including adjustments to box pushing, movement acceleration and individual puzzle levels.

Resizer Gameplay

Each level is a compact environmental puzzle.

You move through the room, enter size-changing portals and use surrounding objects to create a route toward the final portal. Boxes, springs and keys become increasingly important as the puzzles become more complicated.

Controls

  • WAD / Arrow Keys: Move and jump
  • R: Reset the current puzzle
  • Esc / B: Go back
  • Enter / Space: Menu selection on some versions

These controls are documented across the current browser listings.

The MDN KeyboardEvent documentation provides useful technical background on keyboard input in browser games.

Resizer Size-Changing Portals

Portals are the central mechanic.

Green and red portals change the character’s size, and each size creates different possibilities.

The challenge is not simply finding a portal. You need to decide whether the new size will actually help with the next part of the room.

Shrinking The Character

Smaller forms are useful for narrow spaces.

A gap that completely blocks a larger character may become accessible after shrinking. This lets Resizer turn ordinary walls and passages into puzzle elements rather than simple scenery.

I usually look for tight passages before shrinking so I know what advantage the smaller size is supposed to provide.

Growing Larger

Becoming larger changes how you interact with heavier objects and vertical spaces.

Current game descriptions specifically mention growing bigger to jump higher and push large boxes.

That means size is not cosmetic. It directly changes which solutions are available.

Resizer Boxes

Boxes appear throughout the puzzles and can be repositioned.

A box may need to be pushed into place to create a platform, open a path or help you reach another part of the room. Larger character sizes are especially important when heavier boxes need moving.

Resizer Springs

Springs provide another environmental mechanic.

They can bounce your character upward and help reach platforms that cannot be accessed through normal movement alone.

The useful part is working out which character size should use the spring before committing to the jump.

Resizer Keys

Some levels contain keys.

Collecting the required key can open access to another part of the puzzle or help complete the route toward the exit.

These additional mechanics stop later stages from relying only on portal switching.

Reaching The Purple Portal

The purple portal acts as the level goal in current versions of Resizer.

Once the necessary obstacles have been solved, reaching this portal completes the room and moves you forward.

Resizer Puzzle Strategy

Study the entire room before moving anything.

Look for narrow gaps, heavy boxes, springs, keys and the exit. Those clues often tell you which size will be useful first.

I would also avoid moving a box until you understand where it may be needed. Resetting with R is quick, but planning before pushing can save several repeated attempts.

For another browser puzzle where future moves matter, Mahjong Firefly uses tile availability rather than character size.

Resizer Levels

Resizer uses individual puzzle rooms rather than an endless format.

Historical developer notes mention adjustments to levels including 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18 and 19, confirming a structured sequence of designed stages rather than randomly generated rooms.

Later levels combine more of the game’s mechanics and require several size changes before the exit can be reached.

Resizer Progression

Progress mainly comes from:

  • Reaching each level exit
  • Learning when to shrink
  • Learning when to grow
  • Moving boxes correctly
  • Using springs
  • Collecting keys
  • Solving increasingly complex room layouts

There is no complicated upgrade tree, so nearly all progress comes from understanding the puzzle mechanics.

Who Created Resizer?

Resizer was created by Robert Alvarez, also known as Rob1221 on some game platforms. Poki credits Robert Alvarez directly, while Kongregate publishes the game under the Rob1221 developer name.

Poki also credits Robert Alvarez with games including Block Toggle and Isotiles.

Browser And Platforms

The current Poki edition supports:

  • Desktop
  • Phone
  • Tablet

Coolmath Games also lists browser and mobile support for its edition.

Games Like Resizer

Players who enjoy Resizer will probably prefer puzzle-platform games where one unusual movement rule controls most of the level design.

Robert Alvarez’s Block Toggle and Isotiles are useful related titles because they come from the same creator and focus heavily on compact puzzle design.

For a different physics-focused browser challenge, Get On Top uses balance and competitive positioning rather than size-changing portals.

About This Game

Resizer works because the size mechanic affects several different parts of the environment.

Shrinking helps with tight gaps, growing helps with heavier objects and higher movement, while boxes, springs and keys make later puzzles more layered.

The controls stay simple, but each room asks you to think about size as part of the solution rather than merely as a visual effect.

  • Block Toggle
  • Isotiles

Poki currently lists both titles alongside Resizer under the same creator.

Get The Game

Resizer runs directly through supported desktop and mobile browsers.

Study each room before moving, use the coloured portals to choose the right character size and think carefully before repositioning boxes. When a solution clearly goes wrong, the R key provides a quick reset.
