Description

CircloO is a physics platform game where you control a small ball inside a circular level and use momentum to reach smaller circles placed around the stage. Every time you collect one, the playable area grows, revealing new obstacles and changing how earlier parts of the level behave.

The clever part is that you cannot simply jump whenever you want. You have to build speed by rolling back and forth, then use slopes, walls, and curved surfaces to gain height. I found it much easier once I stopped holding one direction constantly and started thinking about momentum before every difficult section.

The developer’s own itch.io page confirms the original 2014 release and 14 standard levels plus 6 hard-mode stages. Poki confirms the current browser support, April 2025 update, and current rating.

The Level Grows as You Play

CircloO does something unusual with level design.

The stage begins relatively small.

You collect a circle.

The outer boundary expands.

More platforms and obstacles appear.

Then parts of the old level become useful in completely different ways.

The Steam version describes this as one of the main ideas behind CircloO: objects that helped you earlier can become obstacles after the circle grows.

That means you are constantly re-reading the same space.

CircloO Controls

The current browser controls are:

WASD: Move
Arrow Keys: Move

Poki confirms both options.

The original concept is even simpler than that. In practice, most of the challenge comes from horizontal movement and momentum rather than complicated button combinations.

Momentum Is More Important Than Speed

CircloO is built around physics.

You often need to roll away from the target first.

Then turn back.

Build more speed.

Use the curve of the level.

Then climb higher than you could from a standing start.

The Steam description specifically emphasizes using momentum to gain height because direct jumping is not available.

This is the first big lesson in CircloO.

Sometimes moving away from the goal is actually the correct move.

Do Not Hold One Direction Constantly

A common mistake is keeping one key held down.

That can work on flat areas, but it gives you less control near narrow platforms.

Instead, I would use shorter inputs.

Move.

Watch the ball.

Let the physics settle.

Then correct.

This makes it much easier to judge whether you need more momentum or less.

Roll Back and Forth to Build Height

Many sections are designed around repeated movement.

You roll down one side.

Turn around.

Gain speed.

Climb higher on the other side.

Repeat.

Each pass can take the ball a little farther.

This is especially useful when a target sits above your current position.

Trying to reach it directly may be impossible.

Building momentum first is usually the real solution.

Collect Seven Circles to Finish a Level

The developer’s original itch.io page states that you collect seven circles to complete each level.

Each collected circle expands the playable area.

That gives the level a clear progression:

collect

expand

adapt

collect again

The puzzle becomes less about finding one destination and more about surviving several changing versions of the same stage.

Fourteen Normal Levels

The original CircloO contains 14 standard levels.

These introduce the game’s main physics ideas gradually.

You learn how to:

build momentum

use slopes

climb curved walls

move around circular obstacles

adapt after the level expands

Later levels combine several of those mechanics at once.

Six Hard Levels

There are also 6 hard-mode levels, bringing the original total to 20 stages.

These are intended for players who already understand how momentum works.

I would finish the standard levels first.

The hard stages become much easier once you already know how much speed the ball can carry through different shapes.

Watch What Changes After Expansion

When the circle grows, do not immediately start moving.

Take a second to inspect the new layout.

A platform that was previously harmless may now block your route.

A slope that was useless before may suddenly become the best way to gain speed.

The Steam version specifically highlights this changing relationship between old and new level sections.

That is one of the strongest puzzle ideas in the game.

Gravity Becomes Part of the Puzzle

CircloO does not use complicated controls, so gravity becomes one of your main tools.

A downhill section can help create speed.

A curved wall can redirect momentum.

A high platform may require several attempts from different starting positions.

Rather than fighting the physics, the better approach is using the stage shape to your advantage.

Obstacles Can Help You

Not every obstacle is simply something to avoid.

Some objects can help redirect the ball or give you a better angle.

The Steam edition expands this idea even further with features such as changing gravity, tiny blocks, machines, and planets with gravity fields.

Even in the original CircloO, the main idea is the same.

Ask what each object can do for your movement, not only whether it is blocking the path.

Time Tracking Adds Replay Value

Poki notes that CircloO saves your completion time and your best time for each part of a level.

That gives you another goal after solving the puzzle.

The first run is about understanding the level.

The next run can be about efficiency.

Once you know the route, you can reduce unnecessary movement and beat your previous time.

Solve First, Speedrun Later

I would not focus on time during the first attempt.

CircloO becomes much easier when you separate the goals.

First:

understand the level

learn where momentum is needed

find the safe route

complete the stage

Then replay it and work on a faster time.

Trying to solve the puzzle and beat a record at the same time makes mistakes more likely.

Mobile and Tablet Support

Poki currently lists CircloO as playable on:

  • desktop
  • phone
  • tablet

That makes the browser edition accessible across several device types.

The core movement system works well on touch devices because the controls are limited and do not require a large number of action buttons.

Original Release in 2014

The developer’s itch.io page records the original release date as December 6, 2014.

Kongregate also records the same December 6, 2014 release date.

That makes CircloO much older than the 2019 Poki listing.

For historical accuracy, 2014 should be treated as the real original release.

Poki Release Came Later

Poki lists its edition of CircloO as released in December 2019.

This is a platform release rather than the game’s first appearance.

That distinction matters when writing the game details.

A browser portal can add a game years after the original developer release.

Latest Poki Update

Poki currently lists April 2025 as the latest update for its edition.

That is the most recent verified update for the Poki browser version.

Other editions have separate update histories.

Steam Version

CircloO later received a larger Steam edition on November 14, 2022.

That version combines:

CircloO

CircloO 2

12 additional bonus levels

a level editor

player-created levels

This makes the Steam version much larger than the original browser game.

Level Editor

The full Steam and mobile edition includes a level editor.

Players can create their own stages and play levels uploaded by other users.

That system greatly expands replay value beyond the original 20 browser levels.

It also shows how the game’s simple physics rules can support many different puzzle designs.

Thousands of Community Levels

Steam currently states that players have created more than 4,000 levels.

That number belongs to the expanded commercial version rather than the original Poki browser edition.

For the Prothots page, I would keep that distinction clear.

The browser game gives you the original set of levels.

The newer Steam and mobile edition gives you a much larger collection and community editor.

Android Version

The official Android edition is still actively maintained.

Google Play lists an update on July 17, 2026.

The app is published by Florian David van Strien and includes the expanded CircloO experience.

Google Play also currently shows a rating of about 4.7 from 15,000+ reviews.

That rating should not be confused with Poki’s browser rating.

Who Created CircloO?

CircloO was created by Dutch developer Florian van Strien.

He also created:

  • CircloO 2
  • CircloO XL
  • The Final Earth 2

Poki connects those games with the same developer.

CircloO 2

CircloO 2 expands the same physics idea with new levels and more mechanics.

Kongregate lists 24 unique levels for CircloO 2.

The core movement remains similar.

You still control a ball.

You still depend on momentum.

You still collect circles.

The sequel mainly expands the number and complexity of physics situations.

CircloO XL

CircloO XL is another related title from Florian van Strien.

It keeps the same general physics approach while changing the level structure.

Players who enjoy the first game will already understand the most important movement idea: build momentum rather than expecting a normal jump button.

Current CircloO Rating

Poki currently shows approximately:

Rating: 4.4 out of 5
Votes: 61,000+

These figures can change as more people rate the game.

Is CircloO Multiplayer?

No.

CircloO is a single-player physics platformer.

Steam also lists the commercial edition as single-player.

There is no verified local or online competitive multiplayer mode in the main game.

A Better Way to Play CircloO

I would use this approach:

Study the full circle before moving.

Find the next collectible.

Check whether it is above or below you.

If it is high, look for a slope or curved wall.

Roll away from the target if you need more momentum.

Build speed gradually.

Use short directional corrections near narrow sections.

After the circle expands, stop and inspect the new layout.

Solve the stage first.

Then replay it if you want a faster time.

This makes the physics much easier to understand.

Common CircloO Mistakes

One common mistake is trying to move directly toward every target.

Another is holding one direction too long.

Players can also forget that old platforms change meaning after the level expands.

The biggest improvement comes from treating momentum as part of the puzzle rather than something that happens automatically.

I have not guessed any Prothots slugs that I could not verify.

What Makes CircloO Different?

CircloO builds an entire platform game around three simple ideas.

You control a ball.

You use momentum.

The level keeps growing.

The controls barely change, but the environment changes constantly.

A slope can help you.

Then the level expands.

Now the same slope can block you.

That repeated reinterpretation of the level is what gives CircloO its identity.

About CircloO

CircloO is simple to start but surprisingly thoughtful once the levels begin growing.

The ball cannot jump normally, so every difficult section becomes a question of speed, direction, slopes, and gravity.

The most useful lesson is learning when to move away from your objective. Building momentum in the opposite direction often gives you the height you need to reach the next circle.

With 14 normal stages, 6 hard levels, time tracking, mobile support, and a much larger expanded version on Steam and mobile, CircloO has grown far beyond its original 2014 browser release.
