Surviv io Remake 2D Shooter
Surviv.io is a top-down 2D battle royale where you loot guns, armor and scopes and outlast a red zone. This page sorts the official 2026 relaunch from fan remakes.
Surviv io Remake 2D Shooter covers a game with an unusual history: a top-down battle royale that shut down in 2023, lived on through fan remakes, and then came back officially. In Surviv.io you start with your fists, search crates and buildings for guns, armor and scopes, and fight a full lobby while a red zone squeezes the map. Knowing which version is the real game and which ones are fan projects saves you from bad downloads. It also helps to know the small habits that keep you alive past the first fight.

Official Relaunch Or Fan Remake: Which One Are You Playing
There are now three kinds of Surviv.io-style games in the browser, and they are easy to mix up.
- The official game: Kongregate shut Surviv.io down on March 2, 2023, then relaunched it on its own website on March 20, 2026, according to the Surviv.io article on Wikipedia
- Fan revivals: while the original was offline, community-run sites such as survev.io brought back a Surviv.io-style game for players who missed it
- New games inspired by it: Suroi is an open-source 2D battle royale built by its own community, with its own name and its own changes
Fan projects are not made or checked by Kongregate. If a site asks you to download an .exe or a “remake launcher”, close it. Real browser versions run in the page with nothing to install.
The Road From 2017 To 2026
Justin Kim and Nick Clark launched Surviv.io for desktop browsers in October 2017. It grew into one of the best known browser battle royales, and Kongregate bought the game in December 2019. The two creators stepped back in 2020, and Kongregate ran development after that. The game also reached Android in November 2018 and Steam in September 2020. Kongregate announced the end in February 2023 and shut the servers in March, before the 2026 relaunch returned it to the browser.
How The 2D Shooting Works
The camera looks straight down at your survivor. You move with the keyboard and aim anywhere with the mouse, so you can run one way and shoot another. Bullets travel across the map, and trees, rocks and walls stop them. That makes cover the most important thing on screen.
Guns use separate ammo, so picking up a rifle with nothing to load into it does not help. Scopes from 1x up to 15x change how far you can see, which in a top-down game means spotting enemies before they reach the edge of your view. Vests and helmets cut the damage you take, and healing items let you recover between fights.
Keyboard And Mouse Layout
- W, A, S, D: move
- Mouse: aim
- Left Click: shoot or punch
- F: pick up items and open doors
- R: reload
- Number Keys: swap weapon slots
Loadouts That Cover Every Range
Since you carry more than one weapon, think of them as a pair. One close range gun for fights inside buildings and one longer range gun for open ground covers most situations. Grenades are handy for flushing a player out from behind a rock or a wall without walking into their line of fire.
Gear To Grab Before Anything Else
- A scope above 1x, because vision wins more fights than raw damage
- Any vest and helmet, even low level ones
- Ammo that matches the guns you already hold
- A few healing items so you never have to fight on low health
Surviving The Red Zone Late Game
The red zone shrinks in steps and hurts more as the match goes on. Players who wait until the last second have to run across open ground while others sit in cover. Move toward the next safe area early, settle behind something solid, and let latecomers come to you.
When a player falls, all their gear drops. That loot pile is bait. If you just won a loud fight, other players heard it, so check the area and heal before you walk into the open to collect.
Team Play In Duos And Squads
Surviv.io supports two and four player teams. Share healing items, call out enemy positions, and avoid standing in one tight group, since a single grenade can hit everyone. Over the years the game also rotated limited time modes with special weapons and roles.
Where It Runs Now
The relaunched game runs in desktop browsers, Chromebooks included, on Kongregate’s site. The original Android app still has a listing on Google Play, but its online service ended with the 2023 shutdown, so the browser is the dependable way to play in 2026. Being a browser game also means it never relied on Flash, which ended on December 31, 2020.
