A slingshot or an appletor improves your odds, so carrying one makes a big difference when you find a rare pet.

Once tamed, your pet follows you and fights for you. Pets and wild animals have three levels, and beating enemies makes your pet bigger, stronger and faster. A leveled pet is worth more than three fresh ones, so protect the pets you have already grown.

• Left Click: attack and gather resources
• Right Mouse Button (Hold): move one pet to a spot
• Shift (Hold): move all your pets
• Shield Button: your pet guards you
• Sword Button: your pet attacks any animal it sees, except sleeping babies
• Hand Button: your pet stops and holds its position
• Skill Button: your pet uses its special ability

Pet Types And Why Matchups Matter

Every animal has a magical type, and types have strengths and weaknesses, a bit like rock, paper, scissors. The game’s own guide gives the example that a Wolf beats a Rabbit but loses to a Bear. Pets also have special abilities linked to types such as Fire, Plant, Water and Electricity, and others that stun, push enemies back or heal over time.

Tips For Building A Strong Pet Team

• Mix pet types so one counter does not wreck your whole team.
• Use the Shield command when you are gathering. A guarding pet stops sneak attacks.
• Switch to Sword only when you are ready to fight, or your pets will chase every animal they see.
• Clear out awake wild animals near a sleeping baby before you try to tame it, so a fight does not interrupt you.
• Grab a slingshot early. Better tame chances save a lot of wasted trips.

Resources, Windmills And Gold

Trees, rocks and animals give you resources, which show at the bottom right. Items in your inventory need these resources to place or use. Windmills are one of the key items because they generate gold, and gold counts as your score. Gold also buys hats and wings in the shop, which give useful effects for the rest of that session. An age bar above your inventory fills as you collect resources and defeat enemies, unlocking new crafts and weapons.

Golden Apples, The Tamodex And Long Term Unlocks

Golden apples are the game’s main currency outside of a match. You earn them from chests, daily claims, challenges, achievements and weekly clan competitions. They unlock cosmetics, pet cards and alchemy flasks. In the Tamodex you choose which pets you spawn with. Taming.io was made by LapaMauve and released on October 16, 2020. The Taming.io page on itch.io lists it as still in development, with updates continuing into 2026. It supports keyboard, mouse and touch input and uses server based online multiplayer.
