YoHoHo.io is a pirate-themed multiplayer battle royale game from Exodragon where you enter an island, collect treasure, grow stronger, and try to remain in the safe area as the map gradually becomes smaller. Start by Collecting Treasure

Treasure is one of the first things worth paying attention to after entering a round.

Collecting useful loot helps your pirate grow and makes later parts of the match easier to handle.

It can be tempting to focus only on other players, but the opening moments are often better used to understand the nearby area and collect what is safely available.

That gives you time to see where other players are moving before the map begins forcing everyone closer together.

The Map Keeps Getting Smaller

YoHoHo.io uses a shrinking-map battle royale structure.

As the round continues, the safe playing area becomes smaller, bringing the remaining players closer together. Poki specifically describes the game as a battle royale where the map continually contracts until one player remains.

This changes how you should move.

An area that feels safe early in the round may become useless later if it sits outside the next safe zone.

I would keep checking the available space rather than waiting until the boundary is already close.

Growing Stronger During the Round

Your pirate becomes larger and stronger as you progress.

That creates a simple progression loop inside each match.

Collect.

Improve your position.

Stay alive.

Move toward safer areas.

Deal with opponents only when the situation makes sense.

The game becomes much harder if you treat every encounter as equally important.

Sometimes moving away is the smarter decision because surviving keeps your current progress intact for longer.

Charged Attacks

The attack control can also be held rather than only tapped.

Holding the attack button prepares a stronger strike before you release it.

The important part is timing.

Charging for too long while standing too close to another player can leave you with less room to react.

I found it more useful when there was already enough space to judge where the other player was moving.

Do Not Chase Every Player

One of the easiest mistakes is following another player across half the map because they look vulnerable.

That can pull you into:

• a crowded area
• the shrinking boundary
• another player’s path
• an awkward part of the island

A better question is whether the chase improves your position.

If it takes you away from treasure or toward the wrong side of the safe zone, leaving them alone can be the better choice.

Treasure Chests

Treasure chests give you another reason to move around the island rather than standing in one area.

They can help your progression, but they also attract attention.

If several players are already around one chest, I would not assume it is worth approaching immediately.

There may be another safer route with fewer players nearby.

This is one of the places where patience can matter more than speed.

Pets in YoHoHo.io

Pets were added after the original release.

The official YoHoHo changelog records June 23, 2019 as the update that introduced pets capable of restoring health while the player stands still.

That gives pets a practical function rather than making them purely decorative.

Standing still can still leave you exposed, though, so the useful part is finding a quiet area before relying on recovery.

New Islands and Skins

The original game expanded quickly after launch.

Good positioning is often less about finding one perfect location and more about keeping an escape route available.

Early in a match, there is enough room to move around freely.

Later, positioning becomes tighter.

I would begin moving toward a useful area before the map forces the decision.

Waiting until the boundary is directly beside you can make the next movement obvious to everyone nearby.

Planning early gives you more routes.

Bushes and the Environment

The environment can affect how clearly other players can read your position.

Rather than running through open areas all the time, it can sometimes be useful to move around environmental features and use them to break direct approaches.

The important part is not staying hidden permanently.

You still need to collect treasure and move with the safe zone.

Environmental cover works best as one part of movement, not as a complete strategy by itself.

A Better Early-Game Approach

I would keep the first part of a match simple.

Collect nearby treasure.

Avoid crowded starting areas.

Learn where other players are moving.

Keep enough open space around your character.

Watch where the safe area is likely to push everyone.

Then become more aggressive only after your position and progress are stronger.

Trying to control the entire match in the first few seconds usually creates unnecessary risk.

A Better Late-Game Approach

The late game is different.

There is less space.

There are fewer players.

Movement becomes easier to predict.

At that point, keeping track of the shrinking area matters more than searching every corner for extra treasure.

The safest route early in the match may no longer exist.

That is why YoHoHo.io rewards players who adjust instead of repeating the same movement pattern throughout the whole round.
