Landing hits fills a power bar, which pays for each character’s special moves and, once full, a cinematic super move. Swapping to a fresh teammate mid-fight lets a damaged character recover on the bench, and that tag rhythm is where most of the strategy lives.

Gear, upgrades and promotions push a card’s numbers up over time. Battles and Challenges give rewards that feed the roster, while online modes let you test a team against other players’ squads with leaderboards, tournaments and saved replays.

Part of the appeal for DC fans was a set of fighters who were not on the original console roster at launch:

The game could also unlock bonuses inside the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the console fighter, which gave console players a reason to install it in 2013. The Wii U edition did not support that link.

NetherRealm supported the game for years with event characters and film tie-ins, and the mobile version passed one billion play sessions during that run. Its format proved popular enough that Raw Thrills turned it into an arcade machine in October 2017, and NetherRealm reused the three-on-three card structure for WWE Immortals and the Mortal Kombat X mobile game. Injustice is effectively the template that NetherRealm’s later phone fighters were built from.

What Fans Still Say About Injustice

Ratings on the Play listing remain high overall, at about 4.4 stars from millions of reviews, yet recent comments paint a rougher picture. Players report the campaign freezing, computer opponents that feel unbalanced at higher tiers and assorted bugs, while the last update listed is from April 2025. Long-time fans mostly return for the roster and the quick, satisfying fights rather than for new content.

Tips Before Your First Few Battles

Spend early resources on one strong team rather than spreading upgrades thin, since three upgraded cards beat six weak ones. Learn to block the opponent’s specials instead of trading hits, because a blocked super costs far less health. Rotate a damaged fighter to the bench early so that it can recover, and read each card’s passive ability before building a team, since a good passive can matter as much as raw stats. If you are new to the series, Injustice 2 is a separate app with a newer roster, though many players still prefer the simpler structure of this first game.
