Recoil

Recoil is a physics-based puzzle platform game from Fancade where every action also moves your character. Work through compact stages, avoid environmental hazards, use walls and interactive objects carefully and solve increasingly tricky movement puzzles using simple mouse or touch controls.

Recoil

Recoil is a compact physics puzzle-platform game from Fancade where your character cannot walk normally. Instead, each action pushes the character in the opposite direction, turning movement itself into the main puzzle. The challenge is judging how much movement each action creates while avoiding stage hazards and clearing the required targets. I find short, controlled inputs much easier than repeatedly clicking without first checking where the character will land.

About Recoil

Recoil takes a simple platforming idea and removes normal walking controls.

Your character moves according to the force created by each action, so every level becomes a small positioning puzzle. Walls, movable objects and environmental hazards all affect how you reach the required targets and finish the stage.

Latest Recoil Update

The current Poki edition lists February 2024 as its latest update after a November 2022 browser release.

It currently supports desktop, phone and tablet and holds a 4.3 rating from roughly 219,000 votes.

Recoil Character

You control a small character who cannot move left or right through conventional platform controls.

Instead, every action changes the character’s position through physics. That limitation is the central idea behind the game and explains why even small rooms can become challenging puzzles.

Recoil Gameplay

Each stage gives you a small environment containing targets, walls, hazards and other interactive objects.

The goal is to clear the required targets while keeping your character safely positioned.

I find it useful to look at the nearest wall or platform before acting. Because every input also changes your position, thinking about where the character will move next matters just as much as completing the immediate objective.

Controls

  • Mouse Click: Perform the main action
  • Touchscreen Tap: Mobile equivalent
  • Hold where supported: Continue the current action

The current browser listing keeps the control system deliberately minimal.

The W3C Pointer Events specification explains how modern web interfaces can support both mouse and touchscreen input.

Recoil Movement System

Movement is created indirectly rather than with dedicated direction buttons.

That means the same action used to interact with a level also affects your character’s position. A small mistake can leave you too high, too low or too close to a hazard.

The safest approach is usually making one deliberate movement and checking the result before committing to another.

Recoil Physics Puzzles

Walls and objects are often part of the solution.

A wall can redirect your movement, while movable blocks can change the available route through a stage. Some objects rotate or pivot, making later puzzles more complicated than the early introductory levels.

This makes Recoil more of a physics puzzle than a conventional action game.

Recoil Hazards

Stages include fixed hazards that end the current attempt when touched.

Because movement is indirect, avoiding those hazards requires planning where your character will travel after each action rather than relying on last-second directional corrections.

For another game where careful physics-based positioning matters, Get On Top uses balance and local competition instead of puzzle stages.

Recoil Levels

The wider Fancade version contains more than 80 levels.

Its official Fancade Wiki currently organizes walkthrough information through at least levels 81–100, showing that the broader version extends well beyond the initial stages.

Later levels introduce additional mechanics that change how movement and positioning work.

Recoil Progression

There is no traditional open world or character-management system.

Progress comes from completing one compact puzzle after another and learning how each new mechanic changes the movement rules.

That keeps sessions short while still allowing the difficulty to grow steadily.

Recoil Strategy

Avoid treating rapid clicking as the solution.

Check your character’s current position, the nearest safe landing area and any interactive objects before making the next move.

I also find it helpful to solve the movement problem first and the target-clearing problem second. If your character ends up safely positioned, the rest of the stage is usually much easier to read.

Who Created Recoil?

Recoil was created by Martin Magni and released through Fancade.

The official Fancade version of Recoil identifies Martin Magni as the creator, while Poki lists Fancade as the developer.

Martin Magni is also associated with several other well-known Fancade games.

App And Platforms

The current browser edition supports:

  • Desktop
  • Phone
  • Tablet

Recoil can also be accessed within the wider Fancade ecosystem through its official Fancade page.

Games Like Recoil

The closest alternatives are physics and puzzle games where unusual movement rules are the main challenge.

Fancade’s Drive Mad uses vehicle balance instead of character movement, while Stacktris focuses on rotating and balancing shapes.

For a different physics-based browser challenge, Get On Top turns movement into a short local competition.

About This Game

Recoil works best for players who like puzzles built around one unusual rule.

Its strongest feature is the movement system. With no traditional walking controls, every action becomes both a way to interact with the level and a decision about where the character will end up next.

Get The Game

Recoil runs directly through supported desktop and mobile browsers and is also part of the wider Fancade collection.

There is almost no setup required. Use one controlled input at a time, watch how the character moves and treat walls and environmental objects as part of each puzzle rather than background scenery.
