About Zenonia

The first Zenonia: a pixel action RPG where Regret's moral choices change the story

Long before Gamevil became Com2uS Holdings, its action RPG Zenonia was one of the games that proved a phone could carry a proper adventure. It began on Korean feature phones in August 2008, reached the iPhone in May 2009 and arrived on the Android Market on March 27, 2010. By the time of the Android launch it had already sold more than a million copies across its versions.

What Is Zenonia

It is a top-down action RPG with real-time combat, drawn in a bright pixel style that critics often compared to The Legend of Zelda and older Final Fantasy games. You play Regret, a young man of unknown origin whose adoptive father, Pardon, is killed by a demon. His search for answers leads to a much larger evil, and the journey covers towns, dungeons, side quests and boss fights. Gamevil claimed about 40 hours of play, which was a remarkable figure for a phone game in 2010.

Regret’s Choices Shape The Zenonia Story

Moral choices give the first Zenonia its personality. Decisions in conversations push Regret toward good or evil, and that alignment changes the main storyline, so two players can see different versions of the same adventure. Picking dialogue options with care matters more here than in the sequels, because alignment affects how the story unfolds. Critics praised the script for having more humor and character than most mobile RPGs of the time, and IGN gave the game 9 out of 10.

Classes, Gear And The Skill Trees

At the start you choose one of three classes, and each has its own fighting style:

  • Paladin
  • Warrior
  • Assassin

Each class has its own skill tree, and hundreds of weapons and armor pieces drop as you explore. Regret’s look changes with whatever he has equipped, which made loot hunting more satisfying than numbers alone. Movement uses an on-screen d-pad, with an attack button and skill shortcuts on the right.

Price History On Android

The Android version launched at $6.99, a high price for the Market in 2010. In November 2010, a month before Zenonia 2 arrived on Android, Gamevil cut it to $2.99 and added proper support for the seven-inch Galaxy Tab so tablet owners no longer saw black borders. That price cut helped the first game find a much larger Android audience just as the series was growing.

Is Zenonia Still Available On Android?

The original Zenonia has not been on sale for a long time, and Com2uS Holdings has said itself that the game became hard to play on modern devices. Old copies were built for Android 2.x hardware and do not suit current phones. Instead of updating the old app, Com2uS remade the game for PC: ZENONIA 1: Thread of Memories, co-developed with CFK, launched on Steam at the end of August 2026 with controller support, a redesigned interface and improved combat feedback, and a Nintendo Switch version is in development.

Why Zenonia Still Matters

Zenonia started a series that went on to more than 63 million downloads across its entries. For many Android owners in 2010 it was the first full RPG they played on a phone, and its d-pad combat and class system shaped Gamevil’s later games. The new Steam remake shows how much goodwill the original still holds among players who grew up with it, and it gives anyone who missed the phone version a legitimate way to see where the series began.
