Sand Balls Classic Web Version

A digging puzzle where you swipe to carve tunnels through sand so a pile of balls can roll down past rocks and traps into the truck waiting at the bottom.

Description

Drag your mouse through a hill of sand in Sand Balls Classic Web Version and a crowd of little balls tumbles down the tunnel you just made. The game is a browser take on the Sand Balls mobile puzzle from SayGames. You dig a path from the balls at the top to the truck at the bottom, steering around rocks and pits that can trap or swallow them. Dig carelessly and half your balls get stuck, so the real challenge is cutting a clean, wide route that saves as many as possible.

How Digging And Ball Physics Work Together

Each level is a slice of sand seen from the side. The balls sit in a pocket near the top, held in place by the sand around them. As soon as you dig under them, gravity takes over and they roll downhill through whatever space you have opened.

Sand you remove stays removed, but rocks and solid blocks cannot be dug. They are there to split the flow or trap balls in dead ends. Balls also bump into each other, so a narrow tunnel can jam while a wide one lets the whole group pour through.

Your score depends on how many balls reach the truck, not on how fast you dig.

Controls For Mouse And Touch

  • Click and hold, then drag: dig a tunnel wherever the cursor moves.
  • Swipe (touch screen): your finger works as the shovel on phones, tablets and touch Chromebooks.
  • Release: stop digging so you do not open holes you did not plan.

Tips That Save More Balls

Dig The Path Before You Free The Balls

Start from the truck and dig upward, stopping just below the balls. Only then open the last bit of sand under them. This way the full route is ready the moment they start rolling.

Make The Tunnel Wider Than You Think

A tunnel one ball wide jams easily. Go over the path twice to make it two or three balls wide. Wide paths keep the crowd moving.

Avoid Flat Sections

Balls slow down on flat ground and can stop completely. Keep a steady downward slope all the way to the truck.

Steer Clear Of Pits And Traps

Some levels have holes or hazards that eat any ball that touches them. Dig your route well above them, and do not cut into the sand that separates them from your tunnel.

Pick Up Extra Balls On The Way

Many levels hide extra balls inside small pockets of sand. If your path passes close to one, dig into it so those balls join the group. More balls in the truck means a better result.

How The Levels Get Harder

Levels get longer and more twisty as you go, with more rocks, more side pockets and narrower gaps. Some versions also offer cosmetic unlocks such as new ball colours. Looks never make a puzzle easier, so you can ignore them if you just want the digging.

Who Made Sand Balls

Sand Balls was published on mobile by SayGames, a studio known for simple one-finger hyper-casual games. The Android version is listed on Google Play as Sand Balls – Puzzle Game, and the iOS version is called Sand Balls – Digger Puzzle. The game picked up millions of downloads on Google Play thanks to its very satisfying sand physics.

Google Play also has a separate listing called Sand Balls Classic. The web version on this page follows the classic digging style of the original game.

Playing The Web Version With No Download

The web version runs in an ordinary browser tab using HTML5, so it plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and on a Chromebook, without any install. The browser draws the sand and balls using the canvas and graphics features described in MDN’s guide to the Canvas API.

For smooth physics:

  • Close extra tabs: many balls moving at once need some processing power.
  • Turn on hardware acceleration: in Chrome, open Settings, then System, and switch on graphics acceleration.
  • Use full screen: a bigger playing area makes tunnels easier to dig accurately.

Why The Classic Version Still Feels Good

Sand Balls works because of its feedback. The sand crumbles under your finger, the balls clatter down the slope and the truck fills up with a satisfying count. There is no timer, no complex menu and no story to follow. Each level takes under a minute, which makes it easy to play a few in a short break. It is also a forgiving game for younger players, because a bad tunnel only costs a few balls rather than ending the run, and the restart button puts you straight back at the start of the level.
