About Zenonia 3: The Midgard Story
Regret's adopted son Chael is stranded in Midgard in this free-to-play third Zenonia
Chael, the adopted son of Regret, leads Zenonia 3: The Midgard Story, which makes it the entry that brings the original hero’s family back into the series. Gamevil released it on the App Store in April 2011 and on Google Play on July 1, 2011. On iOS it was sold as both a premium and a freemium game, whereas Android only ever got the free-to-play version with in-app purchases.
What Is Zenonia 3: The Midgard Story
It is the third pixel-art action RPG in the series, and the first to change setting in a big way. Chael is pulled against his will into Midgard, the middle world of the series, and spends the game trying to find a way home. Two companions travel with him: Celine, a girl from the Divine Tribe, and Runa, a sarcastic fairy whose remarks give the dialogue much of its humor. The tone is lighter than the first game, and the story moves through towns and dungeons in a more linear way.
Choosing Chael’s Path In Zenonia 3
Rather than picking a different hero, you shape Chael into one of four classes, two built for close combat and two for range:
- Sword Knight, a melee class
- Shadow Hunter, the second melee option
- Mechanic Launcher, a ranged class
- Nature Shaman, the second ranged option
Each class has its own skill tree, so a second playthrough with a different path changes how fights feel even though the story stays the same.
The Execution Room And Friend Co-op
Two features set this entry apart. After you reach the town of Delfoy, the Execution Room opens, a colosseum-style tournament against waves of monsters with rewards for surviving. The game also lets you bring a friend’s character into fights, controlled alongside an NPC, in an asynchronous form of co-op that let players share builds without being online at the same time. The Execution Room is the best place to farm gear once it unlocks, so it pays to return there between story chapters.
Free To Play Changed The Feel
Because the Android version was freemium only, Zenonia 3 leaned on paid currency for items, upgrades and convenience in a way the first two games did not. Critics noticed. Metacritic shows a mixed-to-positive 70, TouchArcade gave it 4 out of 5, and Pocket Gamer scored it 7, praising the artwork but calling the combat repetitive. Fans of the first two games often describe this as the point where the series’ business model started to shift. On iOS, buyers could choose the premium edition and avoid most of that pressure, but Android owners never had the option, which is worth remembering when reading old reviews written for the iPhone version.
Availability Of Zenonia 3 Today
Zenonia 3 is no longer listed on Google Play, and its 2011 build was made for Android 2.x and 4.x devices, so it is a poor fit for current phones. Com2uS Holdings has so far focused on remaking the first two games for Steam, and there is no announced return for the Midgard Story yet.
How It Differs From Zenonia And Zenonia 2
Zenonia 3 has a single hero like the first game but with flexible classes, a new world instead of the familiar one, and a free-to-play model. It suits players who like a lighter story with jokes and a class system they can explore, while the first game remains the pick for moral choices and Zenonia 2 for variety of heroes.
